Assemblea Sobiranista
de Mallorca
This campaign is an initiative of the Assemblea Sobiranista de Mallorca (ASM), a non-profit organisation funded entirely by its members' contributions and fees, founded in Mallorca in October 2014 with the political goal of extending sovereigntism and independentism on the island of Mallorca, and achieving decolonisation and independence through the creation of a state of our own for the people of Mallorca together with the citizens of the rest of the Catalan Countries, should they so decide.
From 2014 to today, ASM has been chaired by Maria Antònia Oliver i Cabrer (2014–2015), Cristòfol Soler i Cladera (2015–2018), Margalida Miquel i Perelló (2018–2022), Joan Planas i Ferragut (2022–2026) and Jaume Sastre Font (2026).
No. The bylaws make this clear. ASM as such cannot stand in elections, although in the 2016 Spanish general election it called for votes for the "Sobirania per a les Illes" list, in the 2019 European elections it called for votes for the "Junts per Europa" list, and in the 2023 Spanish general election it called for a null vote, arguing that pro-independence voters in the Balearic Islands had no party to vote for.
Since its beginnings, ASM has worked to analyse the deficit in the Balearic Islands' fiscal balance with the Spanish State and to denounce how this chronic, structural fiscal plunder directly impacts the precariousness of public services such as healthcare, education, infrastructure and public transport... with the resulting harm to the people of Mallorca and the island's other residents. One example is the 50-minute documentary Espoliats (2025), based on interviews with prominent figures from Balearic civil society such as Antoni Llabrés (President of the OCB), Natàlia Bueno (former President of the Balearic Association of Property Agents), Jaume Horrach (Businessman), Antoni Riera Font (Director of the Impulsa Balears Foundation), Ramon Ferré (Aeronautical Engineer), Guillem López Casasnovas (former board member of the Bank of Spain), Joana M. Mas (President of ADIPMA, the Association of Early Years and Primary School Head Teachers), Joan Gaià (Coordinator of Unió de Pagesos), Antoni Cànaves (Transport and Mobility Expert) and Joan Planas (retired Professor of Economics and Business Administration and President of ASM 2022–2026).
ASM took part in commemorating the Tricentenary of the invasion and conquest of Mallorca by the Bourbon army of Philip V (1715–2015), in the 500th anniversary celebrations of the Germanies de Mallorca uprising (1521–2021), and one of its most popular activities is the talks and gatherings it organises to promote cross-cutting debate, bring independentism into public discourse and place it at the centre of politics. ASM has likewise driven various campaigns for the creation of unified pro-independence candidacies in general elections.
ASM's project is linked to democratic regeneration and to improving the quality of life of the people of Mallorca, who are currently living through an acute crisis caused by the predatory colonialism of which AENA is one of the most scandalous examples, and which shows itself in the plunder, the imposition of tourism monoculture, the overexploitation of natural resources, the lack of housing affordable to the middle and working classes, the collapse of roads and motorways, urban speculation, the astronomical rise in rental and property prices for both first and second-hand homes, the colonisation of the countryside, the overcrowding of schools and hospitals, overpopulation, the lack of investment in public transport, and the impoverishment of most of the population, who are stuck with precarious wages while working for subcontracted companies, among other issues.
One of ASM's goals is to build ties with similar organisations in Menorca, Eivissa, Formentera and the rest of the Catalan-speaking territories. In 2016 the Confederació d'Entitats Sobiranistes dels Països Catalans (Confederation of Sovereigntist Organisations of the Catalan Countries) was created. This agreement, originally named the Twinning Pact, was signed in Valencia on 20 April 2016 by ANC (Catalonia), ASM (Mallorca) and the Decidim platform (Valencian Country).
